My name is David Johann, and I’ve worked in the private security

industry for 27 years, in the ever changing and ever increasingly

hostile environment of Downtown Seattle and surrounding cities.

My jobs have included bike patrol in a crime and drug infested

district in Seattle, to vehicle patrol, to managing and doing

corporate sales for the companies I moved up with. Currently I direct

the security operations for some high-rise buildings in Seattle. I’ve

been trained and have trained in several personal safety methods

that has included handcuffing and detaining, batons, pepper spray,

verbal de-escalation, tasers, and firearms.

 

Defending myself and others around me is automatic like breathing

air. Yet it is still a stress point when thinking of how will my wife and

son be defended when I’m not around. It’s a crazy world when I need
